New head of Australian trade union movement named after Sally McManus steps down

Melissa Donnelly, national secretary of the Community and Public Sector Union, has been named as the new head of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), replacing Sally McManus who is stepping down after eight years. McManus and president Michele O'Neil made up the ACTU's first all-female leadership team in the organization's 99-year history, during which they significantly influenced the Albanese government's workplace policy agenda.
