Extreme weather events: Flash flooding in Japan and storms in France

Japan has been battered by extreme rainfall in recent days, with Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures experiencing severe flash flooding and mudslides triggered by moisture from the Sea of Japan. In Himi, Toyama alone, 361.5mm of rain fell in 24 hours—equivalent to half of London and Paris's average annual rainfall. Meanwhile, convective storms have also impacted western Europe, including a tornado in France.
