Artist creates device that makes exercise harder based on housing affordability

Justin Blinder, a Brooklyn-based artist and technologist, created an innovative device called Ground Truth that makes stationary bike pedaling harder as a commentary on housing affordability. Conceived during the 2020 pandemic after losing his job, the project uses technology to create a physical metaphor for economic struggle. The device appears designed to make the experience of exercise reflect the increasing difficulty of affording housing in expensive urban areas.
