Data centres charged with power deposit fees

UK regulators are proposing substantial deposit fees for new data centre projects to manage their significant power demands. Data centres would be required to pay between £237,500 and £712,500 per megawatt, potentially amounting to hundreds of millions of pounds for large facilities. This measure aims to ensure adequate infrastructure planning and financial accountability for the grid impact of these energy-intensive operations.
