Australia spent more than $9m per asylum seeker on Nauru while detainees skip meals

Australia spent over $9 million per person on asylum seekers detained in Nauru last year, yet more than 100 people awaiting processing on the island report being unable to afford adequate food or clean water. A survey by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre found that many detainees are skipping meals to survive, raising questions about where the substantial government funding is actually being allocated.
